Kanayama Sueki Matte Charcoal Gray Kobachi Bowl 9 fl oz / 5.3" dia
Tsugaru Kanayama pottery is made from high-quality resources found at a local reservoir in Tsugaru, Aomori Prefecture. These pottery pieces are made using the "Black Hidasuki (Sueki)", a technique that uses an underground or semi-underground climbing kiln to perform reduction firing (Kangen-shosei) at high temperatures without introducing oxygen. The lack of oxygen exhibits a unique bluish-charcoal gray color, low water absorption, and high hardness. This unglazed pottery has a rough texture. The more you use it, the more the color and luster change, becoming unique to you.
This small bowl features a simple silhouette with a distinctive finish that adds warmth and character to any table setting. Its unique appearance beautifully complements a wide variety of dishes.

These pieces of pottery are made using the "Yakishime Method", a technique in which unglazed pottery is faced directly into a fire fueled by local Japanese Red Pine Wood. The pottery is brought to a high temperature of 2462°F, creating a natural and unique pattern on the surface for each piece of pottery.
