Zhao Mengfu Chinese Painting Print – Seated Figure Zhuge Liang

What Zhao Mengfu does with Seated Figure Zhuge Liang here is the whole argument for classical Chinese painting on one sheet — a traditional Chinese painting reproduction with real substance. The sheet is an unmounted huaxin — a printed painting core, ready for whatever framing or mounting you prefer.

Portrait leads, Zhuge Liang follows, and feather fan fills out the background, a strong Asian wall decor by any measure. Around the main subject: seated figure, red robe, and red robe. Text and image share the paper like old roommates — comfortable, unforced — a fine Chinese calligraphy wall art. Collectors added their seals over centuries — the margins became a guest book. The portrait holds its sitter with the directness of the old studio manner. Zhao Mengfu’s synthesis of Tang and Song models became the Yuan definition of classical.

It will look as right in ten years as it does today — classical images don’t date, and a worthy Chinese brush painting print. Hang it in the dining room; good art is good company.
